How much does a bowling center cost?
Everything you need to know before investing: cost structure, space requirements, payback period and the steps from idea to opening — explained by the team that has installed over 100 bowling centres across Romania and Europe since 1997.
Why bowling is a good investment
Bowling is the world's largest participatory sport: over 100 million people in 95 countries play at least once a year. It is a cash-based business with low inventory and monthly costs, running 365 days a year in any weather, appealing to every age group.
- The investment can pay for itself within up to 4 years;
- Operating cash flow of up to 40%;
- Resilient to economic changes, with predictable revenue;
- Over 210,000 bowling lanes operate in 11,600 centres worldwide.
What the investment consists of
- Bowling equipment — lanes, pinspotters (classic XLi EDGE or low-maintenance EDGE String), BES X NV scoring, consoles, balls, pins and the Conqueror management system. Usually the largest share of the budget.
- Fit-out — flooring, lighting, furniture, bar/F&B area, themed design. This is where the customer experience — and your pricing power — is decided.
- Complementary attractions — billiards, arcade games, simulators, redemption, VR, playgrounds. They raise the average ticket and dwell time.
Why we don't publish a fixed price list: the cost per lane drops significantly with larger configurations, and the difference between classic pinspotters and String technology, or between a standard and a premium fit-out, can change the budget several times over. The space you need
- Standard bowling: roughly 25–30 m in length and ~1.7 m in width per lane. From 2 lanes upward.
- Highway 66 mini bowling: lanes from 9.3 m — ideal for malls, guesthouses, bars, play centres.
- Fly'n Ducks (duckpin): short lanes, light no-hole balls, minimal maintenance — the fastest-payback format for small spaces.
Bowling + arcade = the complete centre
The most profitable venues combine the anchor (bowling) with an amusement area. Through Pixel Games, the group's arcade division, we add video games, simulators, redemption, cranes, pinball, VR and billiards — from SEGA, Bandai Namco, UNIS, Baytek and Elaut (exclusive distribution in Romania) — both new and refurbished, for different budgets.
